satokatsuさんからドリフトムービーが届きました。この動画のすごいところは、FETノーマルのXmods基盤でここまで華麗なドリフトを決めている、というところです。施されているチューンはおしなべてライトなものですが、肝を押さえたセッティングがきれいで安定したドリフトを可能にしています。もちろん、ドライバーの腕が超絶ものであることはいうまでもありません。
Here arrived a new video from satokatsu, see the super technique of the
driver R.P.K.48. Note that the FETs of the machine are just stock, so it's
really light tuned xmod. This movie shows the potentiality of the xmods
chassis.

I call the positions of batteries F(ront), M(iddle), R(ear), just because
I don't know how to call them. If there're already names for them, tell
me.

- Commentary on the video
- The most important thing is the approach into the corner.
- Needs enough speed to gain a proper inertia.
- Break the balance of the traction: I used a brake in the video, but you may use a "feint motion" if you come from a long straight, or a "gyaku-dori (counter-drift)" if you come from another immediate corner.
- At the same time, steer fully toward the corner.
- The machine starts to rotate. So wait until the desired angle (the nose
toward the clipping point). But it's a matter of milliseconds.
- Catch the instant of the proper machine angle, then trottle on 100%, in
order to shift to the power drift smoothly. This means you utilize the rotation intertia for the cornering. Note that any drift is of the inertia.
- Once you get the proper intertia and direction of the car, all you have to do is to keep it and adjust it. Think of the next coming corner.
- In most case, the throttle should be released a little(90-95%) once you got into the power drift at the approach. Then you can adjust the machine angle with the subtle throttle control.
- While cornering(around the clip), you may use the "counter steer" so that the machine won't go too tight. if needed. I used it in
the video. But you should not use it when escaping the corner since it's a loss of the power. That's called "Otsuri(change; surplus)", and the sign of a bad drifter.
- Toward the escape from the corner, give your machine a full-throttle again. Your car must be already facing the next, so just give it.
- When escaped, you may need to release throttle a little (milliseconds)
again in order to kill the lasting cornering G and get back the traction.
- Take the next approach(go back to 1.).
Some Advices
- Never keep the throttle 100% on when you practice. Try to keep moving your
finger so that you may learn how the machine moves according to the acceleration
and (especially) the deceleration.
- Learn the throttle first. You don't need to learn the steering. You'll
know how to steer unconsciously.
- Always put some markers while practicing. Free drifting around WILL SPOIL your hands.
